 Sponsor | anitab | Sep 12, 2007 3:53am | What's your opinion on photoblogs?
Personally, i think that photos do make the page visually interesting.
However, stumblers that just post images from other websites, with no reviews, don't really add anything to SU.
Also, when people "PhotoBlog" an image from a fellow stumbler with no review attached, some people consider it "stealing".. is it?
I have also come across pages that do not even "PhotoBlog", but just post images to their blog directly (ie no link to the original page).
So... should we discourage pure photo blogs with thumb downs?
Or... let stumblers do their own thing on "their" pages?
/ok. done editing. :) |

plus, there are forums where you can post all your photos. and other (better) photo sites. |

To many of the people who do this, it is their first chance at public self-expression. While it may not be adding to your or my SU experience, the participation of photobloggers means that they are also adding stumbles for their like-minded Stumblers.
I say leave them alone. I stumble tons of stumblers, thumbing up those that I like and ignoring the rest.
Remember, the thumbs down function tells SU primarily "do not send me more stumbles like this", ie anyone in the "stumbler" category.
As for stealing, I would say that a huge percentage of active SU bloggers do not follow fair use guidelines of international copyright law and are thus stealing from the original authors and artists. (Throwing first stones and all).
Taking an image from another stumbler with no attribution is no worse than the original stumbler if they did not follow fair use in posting the image in the first place.
My personal philosophy is that if a stumbler's blog for any reason does not stimulate the positive in me, I just move on.
We all use SU differently. There is no right way, just your right way or my right way. |

However, there's nothing wrong with photoblogging. It just doesn't do it for me personally so I network with people with good commentary, and thus get a great and dynamic What's New page. |

Bloody great advice. Gold star for MJ-B :) |

i would also like to establish what is best practice and encourage a better stumbling experience for all. i am also still learning and need to go back to fix some earlier mistakes... but there are diverse opinions out there, so i just need clarification on some things.
however, if it doesn't bother anyone, then that's fine too.
thanks for all the opinions. :) |

Makes me go argh a little, but yeah, I'll go with MJ on this.
On the other hand, argh. |
